Mathematics
Mathematics: a film inspired by Starasia Janelle Wright’s poetry transforms the written word into a visual representation of self-acceptance. After being misdiagnosed with schizophrenia, Starasia uses clones to embody her different personalities and the many pronunciations of her name, transforming the act of “switching up” into a creative practice of reclaiming her identity and mental well-being. The film was written and directed by Starasia, who also sourced her production team of five and styled herself as the talent. Mathematics was filmed in Brooklyn, NY. It was the official film selection for the 2nd Annual Brown Girl Empowerment Film Festival and nominated for Best Music.
